Pollo Campero is Rapidly Growing Across the United States
Iconic Guatemalan chicken franchise is bringing bold, Latin flavors to communities nationwide
Pollo Campero, the iconic Guatemalan chicken franchise, is ready for the national spotlight. Founded in 1971, Pollo Campero followed our millions of fans to the United States when we opened our first restaurant in Los Angeles, California in 2002. After spending 18 years proving the business model, with over 65 corporate owned restaurants, Pollo Campero is now actively franchising in the U.S., and the results have been phenomenal.
Most recently, Pollo Campero has opened locations in the following markets:
- San Francisco, California
- Frederick, Maryland
- Marietta, Georgia
- Pasadena, Texas
“The growth potential of Pollo Campero is really exciting,” says Blas Escarcega, Director of Finance and Administration with Pollo Campero. “We’re in a great position right now. We’ve been experiencing same-store sales growth the last four years, which is really due to our focus on service, our new business model – which has been extremely profitable for all of us – and the fact that when a customer puts our food in their mouth, they love it. There’s a passion behind this brand. The restaurants that are in the United States are performing very well, and we’ve taken great care to build a team capable of supporting the level of franchise investment that’s necessary to grow the brand. It’s a very exciting time to be a part of Pollo Campero.”
Why Are So Many Entrepreneurs Attracted to Pollo Campero?
You may not know this, but Pollo Campero has a massive fan base around the world. When a new Pollo Campero opens in a community, you’ll find lines around the block. This is because millions of fans love our bold, Latin take on fried chicken – and many of them grew up with us in Guatemala and El Salvator. This ability to draw a base of customers, who love our family-style meals, in the early days in business is a tremendous advantage.
We build on this with our secret recipe for success in the U.S.: appealing to a crossover market. In 2020, the majority of Pollo Campero customers are not Hispanic, and our four years of same store sales increases reflect the fact that our food appeals to any and everyone. In recent years, we’ve also streamlined our business model to make it easier to run, as well as invest significantly in our support platform to give franchisees the tools they need to thrive.
“The Pollo Campero platform is one designed for growth and replicability,” says Fernando Palarea, Director of Sourcing & Supply Chain with Pollo Campero. “When entrepreneurs see the flow of our restaurants, they see that we have flexibility in our labor, technology that allows us to deploy and allocate labor to certain areas, and most importantly, focus on the guests during peak times. Our business model has been the key to our success, and most franchisees that have opened a Pollo Campero are ready to open another one.”
